About the Council

esdcrestStatement of Purpose:

The Honor Council of the Episcopal School of Dallas is an elected, representative body of students whose purpose is to sit in judgment of their peers in matters involving honor code violations.  The Council's job in these situations is to make sure the accused student has a fair, just and proper hearing and then to determine guilt or innocence.  In cases of guilt it is the job of the Council to issue a punishment in accordance with the disciplinary policy of the school.

esdcrestThe Members:

Members of the Honor Council are elected by their peers through an open election. Each potential member must answer questions regarding honor, but no speech is required. The members are elected the year before their term begins. The Honor Council is comprised of three members from the Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes, and the ESD Student Council President. In 8th grade, the class selects three members (for the following school year), one for a 2-year term and two for a 1-year term. Therefore, each of the following grade levels only elects two members, one for a 1-year term and one for a 2-year term because one member will have previously been elected.
